Phoenix at LA Lakers 10:30 pm EDT Western Conference First Round Lakers lead, 3-2

LOS ANGELES (Ticker) -- Steve Nash and the Phoenix Suns beat up on Kobe Bryant and the Los Angeles Lakers in Game Five of their Western Conference first-round series. The Pacific Division champs will have to repeat the performance if they want to stay alive.

Nash and the second-seeded Suns hope to stave off elimination once again when they visit the seventh-seeded Lakers in Game Six on Thursday.

After dropping three of the first four games in this series, Phoenix rallied for an inspiring 114-97 victory on Tuesday.

Boris Diaw had 25 points, 10 rebounds and nine assists while Nash added 22 for the Suns, who built a nine-point halftime lead and cruised thereafter.

But the game got ugly in the fourth quarter, when Raja Bell was involved in an incident with Bryant. With 7:33 remaining, Bell leveled Bryant coming down the lane and was assessed a flagrant-2 foul, ejected from the game and also suspended for Game Six. That hurts Phoenix, which has used Bell as the primary defender on Bryant - the NBA's scoring champion.
